Facts about Cancer

Cancer is the third leading cause of morbidity and mortality in the Philippines, after diseases of the heart and vascular system (Philippine Health Statistics 2009).

Based on data from the Philippine Statistics Authority, one out of ten deaths in the country is from cancer. The Philippine Cancer Society Inc. (PCSI) also reported that 91% of people aged 35 years and above have the most occurrence of cancer. The PCSI also mentioned that females have a higher incidence of cancer than males. This is because of the increasing prevalence of breast cancer in the country.

In 2020, there were about 27.2 thousand new cases of breast cancer in the Philippines. Breast cancer had the most number of new cancer cases and the disease was considered one of the leading causes of death in the Philippines.

Photos below are from the breast and cervical cancer screening conducted in the Diocesan Shrine of Immaculate Conception Parish on September 28, 2022. This medical mission wouldn't be possible without the efforts of the Rotary Club of Makati, the Rotary Club of Malabon, PCSI, and PolyHealth.
